7 Reasons Why Your Dishwasher Isn’t Getting the Dishes Clean

You go to empty your dishwasher, and you’re surprised (and disgusted!) to notice unsightly rings and food residues on your dishes and glassware ... What can you do? At Ateliers G. Paquette, we know all about the 7 main problems that can affect your dishwasher’s performance AND how to fix them! For more information, see this blog article.

1. The Wrong Amount of Detergent
Before putting detergent in your dishwasher, make sure you have the right amount, depending on how dirty are your glasses, utensils, plates and so on. But beware! Using too much detergent can make the rinse cycle ineffective and leave a visible residue ... and a noticeable taste!

2. Water Softener Unit Needs Adjustment
Adjust the machine’s water softener according to the manufacturer's instructions to avoid limescale accumulation. However, if you see limescale in your appliance, use a suitable product to dissolve it.

3. Using the Wrong Cycle
Like clothes washing machines, dishwashers have a number of different cycles. Using the wrong cycle can significantly affect how clean your dishes come out. For example, if you selected the light wash mode for a heavy load, you will probably not get the results you are looking for…

4. Dried-On Food
Even the best modern dishwasher can’t necessarily deal with dried-on food that has been there for days – and is now hard as cement! Items like this need to be soaked in hot water overnight before placing in the dishwasher.

5. Overloading
To save energy, you are probably trying to make sure your dishwasher is full before starting a wash cycle. On the other hand, there is a big difference between a fully loaded appliance and an overloaded one! This is because, when the plates are touching, the wash water can’t get to all surface areas…

6. Defective Part
When the cycling pump, wash arms or any other component is damaged, you need to make repairs immediately. To do so, purchase the appropriate replacement part or call a professional repair technician.

7. Clogged Drain, Wash Nozzles or Filter

Food residues, pits, and pieces of plastic or metal can impede water distribution and impair drainage. Avoid this unfortunate situation by regularly removing all solid particles from your dishwasher.
