Is your dishwasher not working? Are your dishes coming out dirty? Before getting rid of your appliance, you may want to get it fixed. At Ateliers G. Paquette, our technicians have the skills and equipment needed to quickly and efficiently repair your dishwasher. We serve customers in Montreal and throughout Quebec.

DETERMINING THE CAUSE OF YOUR DISHWASHER PROBLEM

In many cases, you can get your dishwasher up and running by making a few adjustments or replacing a faulty part. For this reason, it’s a good idea to troubleshoot the problem and find out what’s wrong. By doing so, you should be able to determine if you can fix the issue yourself or if you need to call one of our technicians.

Common Dishwasher Problems

IF THE DISHWASHER DOESN’T FILL

First, make sure the water valve that connects to the dishwasher is turned on and fully open. Next, determine if the water inlet hose under the sink is attached properly, and that it isn’t kinked. If everything looks good, make certain the door is completely closed and latched before starting a wash cycle. If you think that one of the solenoid valves is blocked or faulty, you'll need to get one of our technicians to take a look.

IF THE DISHWASHER DOESN’T DRAIN

IF THE DISHWASHER SMELLS

First, check to make sure you’re using the right amount of detergent and rinse aid for the water hardness in your home. You can test water hardness by purchasing test strips (product number 350924) from one of our stores or by ordering them online. You should also make sure your hot water tank is set to the correct temperature. It should be between 48 and 60 C (120 to 140 F). You can also prevent bad odours from developing by rinsing your dishes prior to placing them in your dishwasher.

IF THE DISHWASHER DOESN'T RINSE THE DISHES WELL

Make sure you don’t overload your dishwasher and that you rinse your dishes before putting them in the machine. If this doesn’t work, determine if you’re using the right amount of detergent and rinse aid for your home’s water hardness. It’s best to use a high-quality product like Comerco tablets (product number 10401) to ensure your dishes get clean. You can also test the water hardness in your home by purchasing test strips (products 350924) in store or by ordering them online.

Furthermore, you should verify that your hot water tank is set to the correct temperature. It should be between 48 and 60 C (120 to 140 F).  If this isn’t the issue, check to make sure the dishwasher is filling and emptying properly and that the filters and nozzles are clean and properly assembled. If the mechanical washing system appears to be blocked or defective, call one of our technicians to identify and repair the issue.

IF THE DISHWASHER DOESN’T WASH THE DISHES WELL

If your dishes come out of your dishwater still dirty, you may be improperly loading your unit and preventing water from circulating. You may also be using an insufficient amount of detergent or rinse aid for your home’s water hardness. You can test the water hardness in your home by using our test strips (product number 350924). Additionally, make sure you’re using a high-quality detergent such as Comerco tablets (product number 10401). You can purchase these items in store or online.

If you continue to have issues, make sure your hot water tank is between 48 and 60 C (120 to 140 F) and that you’re rinsing your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. You should also check that the machine fills and empties properly. Finally, inspect the filters and nozzle to ensure they’re clean and properly assembled. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you could have a problem with the mechanical washing system. If this is the case, we can help.

IF THE DETERGENT DISPENSER WON’T OPEN

First, make sure that the none of the dishes you loaded into the dishwasher are preventing the dispenser from opening. If this isn’t the problem, verify that the detergent capsules you’re using are the correct size for your dishwasher. If you use powdered detergent, ensure you’re not overfilling the dispenser. If the dispenser is blocked or defective, or if the timer on your machine isn’t working, contact one our technicians.

IF THE DETERGENT DOESN’T DISSOLVE COMPLETELY

If this happens, check to make sure the dishwasher is filling properly, that you’re using the right amount of detergent for the selected cycle and that the filters and nozzles are clean and properly assembled. If this doesn’t solve the issue, make sure your hot water tank is between 48 and 60 C (120 to 140 F). If you can’t identify the problem, you may need to have your dishwasher’s mechanical washing system serviced by a professional.

IF THE DISHWASHER IS DISPLAYING AN ERROR CODE

When an error code pops up, first consult your owner’s manual to identify the issue and determine if you can fix it yourself. If you can't find the error code in your owner’s manual, there may be a more serious mechanical problem, in which case, it’s best to have one of our experienced technicians take a look.

IF THE DISHWASHER DOESN’T DRY THE DISHES PROPERLY

First, make sure you aren’t overloading your dishwasher and that there’s enough space for water to circulate. You should also verify that you’re using the correct amount of detergent and rinse aid for your home’s water hardness. You can purchase our test strips (product number 350924) to determine the water hardness in your home. You should also make sure your hot water tank is between 48 and 60 C (120 to 140 F).

Keep in mind, plastic items don’t dry well in modern dishwashers. Therefore, it’s normal for water to pool in cups and glasses with hollow bottoms. If everything seems normal, check to see if the machine is emptying properly and ensure the venting system is unobstructed. If you can’t find the problem, call us to schedule a repair.

THE DISHWASHER IS NOISY

THE DISHWASHER IS LEAKING

First, make certain the door seal is intact and that the latching system works. You should also inspect the plumbing setup to ensure there aren’t any issues. Moreover, find out if you’re using the right amount and type of detergent for the selected cycle. Also, try to determine if the machine is draining properly. Alternatively, it’s possible that your dishwasher is leaking due to a problem with the pump, motor assembly or solenoid valves. Call one of our technicians to find out.

THE DISHWASHER HAS LIMESCALE BUILDUP

This issue is often the result of your hot water tank not being set to the proper temperature. It should be between 48 and 60 C (120 to 140 F). You can check your owner’s manual to determine the ideal temperature for your specific unit. You should also make sure you’re using the right amount of detergent and rinse aid for your home’s water hardness. You can test the water hardness in your home using our strips (product number 350924). Furthermore, if your dishwasher has a plastic tub, we recommend using Ysano descaling powder three times per year. You can purchase these products by visiting one of our stores or ordering them online.
