DISHWASHER

Dishwasher repair

At Ateliers G. Paquette, we specialize in home appliance repair, including dishwasher repair. Is there an issue with your machine? To find out if you can solve the problem yourself by replacing a part or performing a simple repair, consult this list of common dishwasher problems.

The dishwasher doesn’t fill

First, find out if the water valve for the dishwasher is open. Next, ensure that the machine closes fully and that the inlet hose isn’t squashed or bent. In some cases, the machine’s solenoid valves may be blocked or defective. If this is the case, you’ll need to call in one of our technicians.

The dishwasher doesn’t drain

If your dishwasher won’t drain at the end of the cycle, there could be a blockage in your home’s drainage system. Alternatively, your dishwasher’s drain hose could be crushed or bent or the door may be improperly closed or locked. The culprit could also be a dirty dishwasher filter. If these components appear to be in order, then the issue may be a clogged or defective drain pump. This requires professional repair..

My dishwasher has a foul smell

First off, make sure you’re using the right amount of detergent and rinse aid. You’ll need to factor in the water hardness in your region, which you can discover by purchasing water hardness test strips (Product No. 350924) at one of our stores or online. In addition, ensure that your hot water tank is set to the appropriate temperature for your appliance (between 120 °F and 140 °F). Refer to the user’s guide to get this information. Bad odours can also occur when you fail to rinse dishes adequately before placing them in the dishwasher.

The dishwasher doesn’t rinse dishes well

Ensure that you’re loading dishes so that water can circulate well between the items. Also, confirm that you’re using enough detergent and rinse aid relative to the water hardness in your region. This can be tested with water hardness test strips (Product No. 350924). And always use quality detergent and rinse aid: Comerco dishwasher tablets (Product No. 10401) are a good option. To purchase these products, visit one of our locations or order them online.

Also, check whether your hot water tank is set to the right temperature for your appliance. Generally, this is between 120 °F and 140 °F (consult your user’s guide for precise information). To get your dishes as clean as possible, remember to rinse them before loading them into the machine. You may also want to verify whether the dishwasher fills and empties properly and whether the filters and nozzles are clean and correctly assembled. Finally, note that the mechanical washing system of your dishwasher could be blocked or defective, which requires professional repair.

The dishwasher doesn’t wash dishes well

Ensure that you’re loading dishes so that water can circulate easily between the items. Also, make sure that you’re using enough detergent and rinse aid relative to the water hardness in your region. This can be tested with water hardness test strips (Product No. 350924). Additionally, always use high-quality detergent and rinse aid: Comerco dishwasher tablets (Product No. 10401) are a good choice. To purchase these products, visit one of our locations or order them online.

To get your dishes as clean as possible, remember to rinse them before loading them into the machine. You may also want to verify whether the machine fills and empties properly and whether the filters and nozzles are clean and correctly assembled. Finally, note that the pump and motor assembly of your dishwasher could be blocked or defective, which requires professional repair.

The detergent dispenser won’t open

The first thing to do is to ensure that none of the items you’ve loaded into the dishwasher are preventing the dispenser from opening. Also, verify that the detergent capsules you’re using are the correct size for your dishwasher dispenser. If you use powdered detergent, ensure that you’re using the correct amount relative the type of lid on the dispenser. In some cases, the detergent dispenser is blocked or defective or the timer that opens the dispenser during the cycle is broken. If this is the case, call us immediately.

The detergent doesn’t completely dissolve

Check to see that the dishwasher is filling up correctly. Also, ensure that you’re using the right amount of detergent for the cycle you’ve selected. Additionally, check that the filters and nozzles are clean. The temperature of your hot water tank could also be the problem. Refer to the user’s guide to determine what the ideal temperature setting is for your dishwasher (it’s normally between 120 °F and 140 °F). Finally, the issue could be a blocked or defective pump and motor assembly. For immediate repair by a professional, contact our team.

The dishwasher displays an error code

The issue associated with the error code will generally be indicated in your user’s manual, in particular if it’s an issue that can be easily resolved. For example, the code F10 means that the water inlet valve is closed. If the code your dishwasher is displaying isn’t listed in the user’s manual, there’s a chance that you have a serious mechanical failure on your hands. In this case, you’ll want to call in one of technicians.

The dishwasher doesn’t dry the dishes wel

Ensure that you’re loading dishes so that water can circulate well between the items. Also, make sure that you’re using enough detergent and rinse aid relative to the water hardness in your region. This can be tested with water hardness test strips (Product No. 350924), which are available online. Further, verify that your hot water tank is set to the appropriate temperature for your dishwasher. This is normally between 120 °F and 140 °F (consult your user’s guide for more precise information). Be aware that while plastic items don’t warp in modern dishwashers, they also don’t dry very well. It’s also normal to find drips of water in double wall glasses at the end of the cycle. If the problem persists, you can check whether or not the machine is emptying properly. If the source of the problem is the heating element of your dishwasher, contact us, as a professional repair is needed.

The dishwasher is noisy

When loading the dishes on the racks, ensure that the spray arm isn’t in contact with the items. Next, make sure that the filters are clean. The noise could also be caused by a blockage in the pump and motor assembly, a mechanical failure or an issue with the heating element. Contact us if you need one of our professional technicians to inspect your unit.

The dishwasher leaks

Inspect the door to ensure that it’s tight and that the locking system works. Also take a look at your machine’s plumbing setup. Moreover, ensure that you’re using the appropriate amount and type of detergent for the cycle you’ve selected. Further, make sure that the appliance empties properly. It’s also possible that the leak is due to a mechanical failure in the pump and motor assembly or the solenoid valves. This requires repair by a qualified technician.

The inside of the dishwasher has limescale buildup

Ensure that the water tank is set to a suitable temperature for your machine, which is normally between 120 °F and 140 °F (check your user’s guide for more precise information). Also, make sure that you’re using enough detergent and rinse aid relative to the water hardness in your region. This can be tested with water hardness test strips (Product No. 350924). Furthermore, if your dishwasher has a plastic tub, it’s recommended that you descale the machine with Ysano Cleaner three times a year. To purchase these products, visit one of our stores or order them online.
