HOW TO PREVENT AND ELIMINATE BAD ODOURS IN YOUR WASHING MACHINE

Is there a foul smell emanating from your clothes washer? This is an unpleasant situation to say the least – and you are right to worry! In fact, if your washer smells bad, it is probably not getting your clothes as clean as it should...Thankfully, at Ateliers G. Paquette we are specialists in the repair of all kinds of electrical appliances (including washers and dryers), and we know a few ways to get rid of those odours. Find out more in this blog article.

Be Mindful of Mold

Most people are used to keeping their washer door closed at all times. However, this creates just the kind of moist environment that mold loves to grow in... After finishing a load, be sure to keep the washer door open until the inside of the machine is dry. Also, don’t start the machine when you plan to be gone for several hours, to avoid letting the damp load sit.

Follow Instructions

Some people think the more soap they use, the cleaner and better smelling their laundry will be. Then there are others who, on the contrary, don’t use enough soap. Both approaches adversely affect the quality of your laundry. At Ateliers G. Paquette, we know that for a washer to clean – and rinse – correctly, it is important to use the amount of detergent recommended by the manufacturer and to choose the appropriate cycle for each load.

Clean the Machine

Wash your appliance thoroughly at least once a year, making sure to remove any deposits that have clung to the soap and fabric softener compartments. If you have a front-loading washer, wipe the rubber seal on the door regularly with a damp cloth (use soapy water or a little diluted white vinegar). Another recommendation we make to our customers at Ateliers G. Paquette is to do an "empty load" a few times a year using a product especially designed to dissolve residues such as grease and scale, etc. Quality cleaners will make all the difference in the performance of the appliance and in eliminating odours. You can trust our brand name products, including Comerco detergents and Washer Fresh descaling capsules. These products are available at our store, or you can order them on our transactional website.

Where Does That Smell Come From?

Dirty laundry contains residues with odour-causing bacteria such as food, cosmetics, mud, sweat, etc. During the laundry cycle, these residues slowly build up on your washer’s components, hampering the machine’s performance and creating unwanted odours. At Ateliers G. Paquette, we specialize in the repair and maintenance of the most famous name brands on the market. Need a replacement part, cleaning product or professional repair service?
