TRUE OR FALSE: REFRIGERATOR EDITION

Person opening a fridge

As appliance repair experts in Montreal and throughout Quebec, the team at Ateliers G. Paquette understands refrigerators inside and out. Answer these true or false questions to test your own knowledge of this essential kitchen appliance.

1. The refrigerator was invented in 1876

True. The word refrigerator was coined in 1803 by Thomas Moore, who created an icebox to transport dairy products. However, German inventor Carl von Linde is largely credited with inventing the refrigerator as we know it today in 1876.

2. Your refrigerator should be set to 6 C or lower

False. According to Health Canada, your refrigerator should be set to 4 C or lower to keep your food safe. Bacteria can grow quickly in temperatures above this threshold, and eating improperly stored items can lead to food poisoning.

3. The door is the coldest part of the refrigerator

True. It’s the perfect place to store jams, juices, butter and condiments. However, you should avoid storing milk in the door, as it must always be kept between 1 and 4 C. Instead, store it near the back of the fridge to keep it at a more consistent cool temperature.

4. It’s not worthwhile to repair your refrigerator

False. Most refrigerators last about 10 years. Therefore, if your fridge is relatively new and the issue is minor, it’s far cheaper to repair it than to purchase a brand-new model. Furthermore, repairing appliances not only saves you money but is also good for the environment.

5. It’s difficult to find replacement parts for refrigerators

False. You can often find the part you’re looking for by entering your unit’s model number in a search engine. Furthermore, Ateliers G. Paquette has one of the largest inventories of appliance parts in Quebec. If you have a problem, simply fill out the refrigerator parts request form on our website to find the replacement part you need in the greater Montreal area.
