TIPS FOR OVERHEATING DRYER | ATELIERS G. PAQUETTE

If your clothes are too hot when you take them out of the dryer, it indicates that there’s a problem. A dryer that overheats can damage or shrink your clothes and even spark a fire. In this article, the dryer repair professionals at Ateliers G. Paquette give you some expert tips for troubleshooting this issue.

CLEAN THE LINT TRAP AND THE VENT COVER

Remember to always clean the lint trap after using the dryer. In addition, be sure that the exterior vent cover is free of lint, debris, snow, bird’s nests and all other obstructions. When the vent is clogged, heat remains trapped in the dryer and the ductwork, which can cause overheating.

MAKE SURE YOUR DRYER AND DUCT HAVE AMPLE SPACE

If the water supply line, or hose, is twisted, plugged or punctured, this may prevent the machine from filling. Unknot, unplug or replace it as necessary.

3. WATER VALVE

Your machine can have trouble expelling heat when it’s in an overly confined space that prevents the free circulation of air. Consult your user guide to determine what the ideal dimensions are for your dryer’s location. In this same vein, you don’t want your duct squeezed into a tight space. Inspect behind your machine to ensure that the duct isn’t squished or blocked in any way. And if you haven’t had it cleaned for a while, reach out to our experienced team for professional duct cleaning services.

MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE CORRECT DRY CYCLE

Is it possible that you accidently selected the wrong drying temperature? Always remember that the dryer settings need to correspond to the types of clothes or other materials (sheets, napkins, tablecloths) you’re drying. For example, as a rule bedding should be dried at a high temperature, jeans at a moderate temperature and shirts at a low temperature.

GET YOUR DRYER PROFESSIONALLY SERVICED

When was the last time you had your machine inspected? To ensure that it’s working at peak efficiency and doesn’t pose any safety concerns, a dryer should be inspected by a specialist every 18 months.

Did you perform all these troubleshooting steps but your machine is still overheating? Then it’s possible that your machine is malfunctioning. At Ateliers G.
