KEEP YOUR WASHER AND DRYER IN OPTIMAL CONDITION WITH REGULAR CLEANING

You may be wondering why you need to clean your washer and dryer. After all, when you take your clothes out of the machine, they’re perfectly clean. Shouldn’t this mean that your washer and dryer are also immaculate? Though it would be nice if this were the case, the reality is that soap residue builds in your washer and lint collects in your dryer. Here are some tips on how to keep your appliances clean from the specialists in washer and dryer repair at Ateliers G. Paquette.

Cleaning your washer

Whether it’s top-loading or front-loading, your washer requires regular cleaning. This may be once a month, once a season or once a year, depending on how often you use the machine.

Cleaning your washer is easy and only requires bleach or a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. If you opt for bleach, pour four cups of it in your machine, then start a wash cycle at maximum temperature. Pause the cycle after a few minutes, let the product work for at least an hour, and then resume the cycle.

Alternatively, pour four cups of vinegar and a quarter-cup of baking soda in the washer. Follow the same procedure as with the bleach, but if you have a top-loading machine, spend a few minutes scrubbing the compartment when you pause the cycle. For best results, use both techniques.

Another option is to use a cleaner made specifically for washing machines. Make sure to follow the product’s instructions.

And, as a final tip, if you have a front-loading washer, be sure to regularly clean the rubber seal around the door. This will prevent mould from building up around it.

Cleaning your dryer

You probably already know you should clean out the lint screen, but don’t forget to regularly clean the duct behind your dryer. It too can get clogged with lint and over time, this can become a fire hazard. Also routinely check that the dryer vent flap outside your home is clear of lint and debris so that air can exit freely.
