WHY ISN’T MY FRIDGE COLD?

fridge is not cold

If your fridge isn’t cooling properly, you don’t want to waste time in getting to the bottom of the issue. Otherwise, you could end up with a bunch of spoiled food on your hands. In this article, the appliance repair experts at Ateliers G. Paquette give you some pro tips to help you resolve issues with your fridge’s temperature. Identifying the problem

If you left the door open, then you can expect the temperature to spike temporarily. Is your fridge too full? This can also cause temperature issues. Free up some space in your fridge (for example, by transferring some items to the freezer), and see if that fixes the problem. Here are some other things to look for. If the fridge light is off, check:

  • The power. The vibrations of the fridge may have caused it to become unplugged. While you’re checking the plug, ensure that the back of the fridge is clean and that nothing is obstructing the air vents.

  • Fuses or circuit breakers. Was the electricity cut due to a power surge?

If the fridge light is on, check:

  • The thermostat. Were the temperature settings accidently adjusted?

  • The door. Was the door slightly ajar, causing the fridge to gradually warm?

  • The door seals. Are they dirty or damaged? Test how effective they are by closing the door on a sheet of paper. If it’s easy to slide the paper out, you need to replace the seals.

  • The fridge components. Inspect the compressor, the compressor cooling fan and the evaporator fan for the freezer. Do you hear an unusual noise such as metallic rattle, or, conversely, total silence? If so, call in a professional to repair the defective part.

If everything seems fine with the fridge, turn your attention to the freezer. Check its temperature: it should be between -15°C and -18°C. The freezer plays a role in cooling the fridge, and an issue with the freezer could affect the fridge. Unscrew the ventilation grill and look for ice buildup. If there is any, it may be block the air’s circulation. If the problem can’t be resolved with a simple fix, it’s important that you call in a professional. Otherwise, you might permanently damage your refrigerator or injure yourself trying. Turn to the experts in appliance repair at Ateliers G.
